When the kids are over, I’m always trying to think of some quick and easy snacks. Sure, I could just give them a piece of fruit, crackers, or chips. But I am grandma! They have come to expect something a little different. All week we were doing Christmas outing with the kids. Our visit to see Santa was a little different since everyone had to pre-register, wear facial mask and have temperatures taken before entering Santa’s work shop. My grandson is 17 months old and was super excited since this would be his first-time seeing Santa. He danced across the sugarcanes and looked at the animated elves with glee. Everything stopped when he saw Santa. Unaware of the plex glass in front of Santa, he rushes over yelling, “I love you Santa.” Before I could reach out my hands to stop him, “smack.” He hit his head and without blinking stood back up and hugged the window. I could just see the attendant on the side holding a can of Lysol ready to save Santa from the barrier of love smeared all over the window.
Well, today I was in some holiday cheer and wanted to create
a Santa themed snack. I wanted the Santa to look kind of silly and thought
having a picked Christmas tree would be a perfect pair. Actually I think this
Santa had the same facial expression as the one at the mall glazing at my
grandson , who just tried to tackle him. I hope your child enjoys this snack as
much as we did.
Ingredients:
Ritz crackers, dill pickles, peperoni, toothpicks, star
shape cookie cutter, small wavy circle pastry cutter, mini candy eyes, white
cheese, and yellow cheese
Directions:
1. 1. Use the small wavy circle pastry cutter and
white cheese to create circle shapes. Cut a small piece of the top of each
circle. Lay the larger pieces of the circle on Ritz crackers. This will be the
beard. Turn the smaller piece upside down to create Santa’s mustache.
2. 2. Add two candy eyes to each Santa.
3. 3. Cut out pepperoni into triangles. Add one piece
to each cracker. This will be Santa’s hat. Top the tip of triangle with a small
round piece of cheese.
4. 4. Next, to prepare the pickle tree, I speared
three pickles on toothpick. Cut the side of pickles off to create a triangle shape.
The scrapes I add later to my tuna salad.
5. 5. To create the stars, cut yellow block of cheese
into slices. Make sure the star is thick enough to insert with toothpick. Use
the star cookie cutter to cutout shapes from yellow cheese. Place stat at the
top of each pickle tree.
