Star Wars Bento

I spent endless days during quarantine watching Star Wars movies with my family. It’s nice to see how much my grandchildren embrace one of my favorite movies. After watching The Mandalorian My granddaughter has become a real fan girl. It’s all about the baby Yoda. It was important to me that this lunch represented for all the true fans.

Included in this lunch:

❤️ Sandwich- Star Wars cookie press was used to create a raspberry preserves with cream cheese sandwich.

❤️ Slice cucumber

❤️ Baby Yoda-  A baby Yoda shape cookie cutter was dipped in green food coloring and pressed into two Babybel.

❤️ Sliced strawberries

❤️ BB-8- a small cookie cutter was used to cut out two apple circles and and decorate it with cheddar cheese.

❤️ Lightsaber- One green fruit rollup fold it around a lollipop stick.

❤️ Embellishment- Prints clips that were covered in packing tape back and front. The shakes her cut out and used to decorate lunchbox. This method makes the images waterproof and it’s cheaper than using my laminator.

Mermaid Lunch

Online schooling has presented challenges that our family had to make adjustment to accommodate the needs of our kids.  Sometime kids can be overlooked when it comes to how Covid and quarantine has place stress on them. I like to infuse each day with special moments. This is the beauty of making bento lunch. They give parent a chance to make their child smile. I like to incorporate the kids interest in my lunches. In my lunches I like to include cliparts for two reasons. The first reason is it would be time consuming to try and create these details with food. The second is I look at this like creating art using to mediums. Adding clip art details add a host of possibility when making creative lunches. This lunch was totally dedicated to my granddaughter. She is all about unicorns, princess and mermaids. She loves ramen noodles, so while noodles cooked I added a drop of blue food coloring to the water. It created a much darker color than I originally expected. The noodles gave the p...

Hello Kitty Lunch

Over the weekend my granddaughter was so hurt that her aunt bought a Hello Kitty pencil for herself and unicorn pencil for her. She pouted, “ but I Love Hello Kitty too.” We had to talk to her about what it means to have gratitude. These are hard, but needed lessons.   Gratitude, thankfulness, or gratefulness, from the Latin word gratus ‘pleasing, thankful’, is a feeling of appreciation felt by and/or similar positive response shown by the recipient of kindness, gifts, help, favors, or other types of generosity, towards the giver of such gifts. I love my grandchildren and want to give them everything, but without nurturing gratitude they will end up spoiled and ungrateful. As a parent (and grandparent) teaching our children to be have gratitude is actually molding them into kind human beings.  I ncluded in lunch: 🥪 kitten - raspberry jam sandwich 🥮 heart shape pound cake 🥣 strawberry yogurt 🥒 cut cucumbers 🧆 Snack: yogurt cover raisins  S trawberries Direct...

Halloween "Not" so scary Bento Box

Kids look forward to Halloween every year. It’s exciting as a family to decorate, pick costumes, and prepare for Trick or treating. Well, this year due to quarantine the way Halloween is celebrated has changed. Many schools are not permitting parties and few kids are going Trick or Treating. I love Halloween and through the power of bentos was determined to create a lunch that would bring the Halloween spirit. This week bento was inspired by Robot Squirrel and The Monkey . I love this bento because of its cute and not so scary witch just conjures up the nostalia of Halloween. I wanted to copy this witch theme bento by recreate the witch using a grape jelly Uncrustable. In the original, the witch eyes were made from jelly candy and she has carrot hair. I will do the same thing with slight changes. I used a paint brush to add a mouth. For the witch hat, I printed a hat clipart found online and used it as a templet to cutout hat on black cardstock. The belt on hat was traced using white...
