Minnie Breakfast for Lunch

2020 has canceled all of my plans. I spent months planning the prefect holiday for my granddaughter. It was going to be her first trip to Disney World. We wanted her to experience ALL that Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom has to offer. Part of my awesomeness as a grandparent was to bring a small luggage filled with items, I planned to surprise her with each day. One thing was a stuffed Minnie Mouse. Which would be presented while she ate breakfast. I could just imagine her little face lighting up. Well, like Pete the Cat did we cry goodness no , we just made a Minnie box instead!

This week bento box was inspire by onecraftything.com sandwich accompanied by blueberry and cherry lunch. This was such a cute idea. The cherries really pop out. I wanted to use this idea to create a breakfast for lunch. This bento included:

Two pancakes cut using a Minnie Mouse cookie cutter with blueberries as background. Turkey and cheese roll on a stick.Cherry flavor Greek yogurt decorate with candy flowers. Embellished with laminated Minnie Mouse clipart.

Native American Heritage bento box

On August 3, 1990,  President of the United States   George H. W. Bush  declared the month of November as  National American Indian Heritage Month , thereafter commonly referred to as  Native American Heritage Month . The bill read in part that “the President has authorized and requested to call upon Federal, State and local Governments, groups and organizations and the people of the United States to observe such month with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities”.  As a teacher I make a point to introduce students to the true heritage of America. We are fortunate to live in a country where many cultures are celebrated (Wikipedia). This Bento box Was inspired by Eclectic Lamb. I researched online to find markings Native American markings and used it to write on sugar cookies. For the Wampum belt, My granddaughter does not like beans, do I tried to place as little as possible. Sides included in this lunch was Poppable chips Embellished wi...

Mermaid Lunch

Online schooling has presented challenges that our family had to make adjustment to accommodate the needs of our kids.  Sometime kids can be overlooked when it comes to how Covid and quarantine has place stress on them. I like to infuse each day with special moments. This is the beauty of making bento lunch. They give parent a chance to make their child smile. I like to incorporate the kids interest in my lunches. In my lunches I like to include cliparts for two reasons. The first reason is it would be time consuming to try and create these details with food. The second is I look at this like creating art using to mediums. Adding clip art details add a host of possibility when making creative lunches. This lunch was totally dedicated to my granddaughter. She is all about unicorns, princess and mermaids. She loves ramen noodles, so while noodles cooked I added a drop of blue food coloring to the water. It created a much darker color than I originally expected. The noodles gave the p...

Fall Bento Box

I love living in the Midwest especially during the Fall. The crisp morning, changing colors of the leaves weather changes and shorter days reminds us that Mother Nature is in charge. That’s ok with me. Don’t get me wrong I love a bit of sun, but as a homebody colder seasons calls for cozying up by the fire with a cup of coco listening to smooth Jazz. This week I went hiking in our local forest preserve and wanted to create something whimsical that reminded me of things observed during my walk. For this bento I printed forest animal clipart’s to add embellishments. You can laminate these animals cutout or use shipping tape of the front and back to protect image from moisture.  Included in this lunch: Owl: made from rice crispy treats. The wings are made of cheese and I used frosting to decorate the owl's body. Acorn: I used a veggie cutter to create an acorns from tortilla.   I sprinkle water at the top and patted in sugar and cinnamon to give more od an illusion....
