Hello Kitty Lunch

Over the weekend my granddaughter was so hurt that her aunt bought a Hello Kitty pencil for herself and unicorn pencil for her. She pouted, “ but I Love Hello Kitty too.” We had to talk to her about what it means to have gratitude. These are hard, but needed lessons.   Gratitude, thankfulness, or gratefulness, from the Latin word gratus ‘pleasing, thankful’, is a feeling of appreciation felt by and/or similar positive response shown by the recipient of kindness, gifts, help, favors, or other types of generosity, towards the giver of such gifts. I love my grandchildren and want to give them everything, but without nurturing gratitude they will end up spoiled and ungrateful. As a parent (and grandparent) teaching our children to be have gratitude is actually molding them into kind human beings.  I ncluded in lunch: 🥪 kitten - raspberry jam sandwich 🥮 heart shape pound cake 🥣 strawberry yogurt 🥒 cut cucumbers 🧆 Snack: yogurt cover raisins  S trawberries Direct...

Sesame Street Lunchable

Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street. In 2020, Sesame Street  celebrated its 51st anniversary. Yup, that means 51 years of singing, dancing, rhyming, and learning ABCs and 123s with Big Bird and the gang. It's one of the few programs I can tell my grandchildren that I watched this as a little girl too. Over the years Sesame Street evolved with technology and community issues. Today I wanted this lunch to include all of our favorite  Sesame Street  characters.   Ingredients: crackers, salami, white cheese , cheddar cheese, yogurt, blue food coloring, edible google eyes, one cookie, nori, broccoli, smiley face potato fries, and mandarin orange. Directions:  1. cook  smiley face potato fries as directed and add to bento box. 2. print a clipart of the character Ernie faces. Cut is out and stick to orange using glue stick ONLY.  This wont run or leek into the orange and will be removed with peel before eating...

Teddy Bear Bento

I always make my granddaughter a special lunch. Every now a then her toddler brother gets to enjoy one too. Today I decided to make something he would ordinarily get for breakfast extraordinary. Needless to say, this breakfast was a lot easier than my lunches. My grandson is a sweet teddy bear, so today’s breakfast had to be themed after him. I used molds to shape cooked oatmeal into bear face. The body was formed using one slice of French toast stick. I made a one egg heart shaped cheese omelet.  I slice two sausages vertically and stuck them together to create a heart shape. Afterward I sliced a half banana into embellishments for the bear, a moon, circles, and flowers. Serve it warm. Ingredients: Instant oatmeal, beef sausages, one egg, slice of cheese, one banana, toothpicks eyes, and French toast sticks.  Directions: 1. Cook oatmeal as directed. Use a bear shape mold or circle mold to create bear facial shape. 2. Warm on froze French toast stick and divide it i...

Spirited Away Bento

In my household we are true Hayao Miyazak fans. For those of you who are in the dark about who this person is, allow me to enlighten you. Hayao Miyazaki is Japan’s greatest animator. His cinematic works hold lasting artistic value, provided audiences with magical memories for decades . Disney was so impressed with his work that they commitment to introduce the films worldwide.  Miyazaki's films often emphasize environmentalism and the Earth's fragility. If you want to see one of his films I suggest Spirited Away , which happens to be the theme of today’s lunch. Spirited Away is about a girl name Chihiro that enters the spirit world and he name changed to Sen after she starts slaving away at the bathhouse of the witch Yubaba . In this strange fantasy her parents were turned to pigs and she encounters No-Face. My granddaughter loves the villains in every movie we watch and No-Face was no exception. I like this character because it only ate people consumed by greed and covetous...

Crazy Santa Snack

When the kids are over, I’m always trying to think of some quick and easy snacks. Sure, I could just give them a piece of fruit, crackers, or chips. But I am grandma! They have come to expect something a little different. All week we were doing Christmas outing with the kids. Our visit to see Santa was a little different since everyone had to pre-register, wear facial mask and have temperatures taken before entering Santa’s work shop. My grandson is 17 months old and was super excited since this would be his first-time seeing Santa. He danced across the sugarcanes and looked at the animated elves with glee. Everything stopped when he saw Santa. Unaware of the plex glass in front of Santa, he rushes over yelling, “I love you Santa.” Before I could reach out my hands to stop him, “smack.” He hit his head and without blinking stood back up and hugged the window. I could just see the attendant on the side holding a can of Lysol ready to save Santa from the barrier of love smeared all over ...
